New 2017 Dodge Charger at Brown's Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for Patchogue, NY
On Charger models with the 5.7-liter V8 engine, there is a new active exhaust system, and also, the new forged wheels for the SRT Hellcat get lighter by design. The Daytona model makes it back into the Charger lineup for 2017. It's available with the 5.7-liter engine, and the Daytona 392 model comes with the 6.4-liter V8 engine. The Daytona model has specific styling developments and interior trim changes, wider tires and top-of-the-line brakes. The government recently scored the Charger its best possible five-star overall crash test rating, which is made up of four stars for front-impact safety and five stars for side-impact safety. For 2017, the Charger's available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen has been built for fast startup and smooth operation, high resolution, and overall performance-- especially within the navigation screens. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also incorporated into the 8.4 Uconnect for 2017.
Under the Charger's Hood
The SE and SXT are powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with VVT that produces 292 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and we should mention that those specific models also have all-wheel drive as an option (all others are rear-wheel drive). An 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard on every Dodge Charger. The R/T Scat Pack and both 392 models have a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with VVT good for 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The R/T and Daytona have a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with VVT that is good for 370 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. The SRT Hellcat, sees a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 that brags with its 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. In Edmunds testing, it went from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. In Edmunds brake testing, this vehicle stopped from 60 mph in 111 feet (Charger R/T Scat Pack model). Also remarkable, the SRT Hellcat model did the same test in 103 feet, and both are great scores for the models.
Design of Dodge Charger
The Charger is a full-size sedan with an available 8.4-inch Uconnect interface that uses smart layout, pixel buttons and a straightforward menu. On that subject, the 5-inch Uconnect screen in the base SE model works just as well for those who want a more streamlined dash style. The 2017 Dodge Charger comes in eight models: SE, SXT, R/T, Daytona, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat. Standard equipment on the SE are 17-inch alloy wheels, a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry and ignition, front and rear USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system with an aux audio jack and a media player interface. The SXT throws on 18-inch wheels, an auto-dimming mirror, LED foglamps, dual-zone automatic climate control, an additional USB port up front, heated mirrors, and the 8.4-inch touchscreen that has Apple CarPlay & Android Auto for smartphones. The R/T model is outfitted close to the SXT but rocks 20-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, transmission paddle shifters and enhanced brakes. Adding to that previous model's style features, the next model in line sees forged alloy wheels, a performance suspension tuned specifically for the model, and some of the Premium Group's features, all appearing on the Daytona model. The R/T Scat Pack gains rear parking sensors, power 8-way front seats, a rearview camera, performance brakes, and a high-performance suspension. The Daytona 392 basically combines the R/T Scat Pack and the Daytona model's features, plus keeps matching those brakes to the powerful engine selections. The SRT 392 offers as an option the Technology Group, then that model builds further with an adaptive suspension, both blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems, all-leather upholstery, forged alloy wheels, xenon headlamps, a steering wheel with a sporty flat-bottom and then the Uconnect navigation system. A 19-speaker audio system by Harman Kardon becomes available on the SRT 392 and the SRT Hellcat, and works in conjunction with the standard (on all models) acoustic windshield and acoustic front-side windows. The SRT Hellcat adds to the SRT 392 content with a V8 engine that is supercharged, added tuning for the steering and suspension, plus a lot of the features from above! The trunk space measures in at 16.5 cubic feet.
